While working at a nanotechnology company focused on water purification in the UK, Alex Totterman, Cove’s Founder & CEO discovered how difficult it was to remove microplastics from water. To reduce the plastic pollution that inevitably breaks down into microplastics, Alex started intensive research into alternative materials and founded Cove in 2018.
After 4 years of R&D, Cove successfully commercialized the world’s first biodegradable water bottle in 2022 under its own brand. The Cove bottle was an honoree in Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas and won Plastic-Free Innovation of The Year along with being featured in The LA Times, Bloomberg, The New York Times, Forbes and attracted a large following of notable influencer and celebrity fans.
Cove’s test launch provided a strong case study to the industry and amassed significant demand from many of the largest consumer brands for Cove's technology. Cove now focuses on working with iconic global brands to develop solutions to the world’s most polluting products.
